Cordyceps Lion by thomaswievegg Cordyceps Lion by thomaswievegg
Heeya! Concept art from the new Lion King movie! Naaah, I joke! I just wanted to explore what a lion infected with cordyceps fungus could look like. Really glad that they didn't have infected animals in the game though, that would've ruined it I think. EDIT: A lot of people have noted that there indeed were infected animals in the game, so to clarify what I meant: I'm glad there weren't any "fungal monster animals" :D Plus people are way more scary than animals, and I'm not even talking about infected people :la:

That is horrifying! I'm sure glad I didn't have to deal with that in the game!

This is such a cool concept. I sorta buy it because if the cordyceps can evolve from infecting insects to humans in the TLOU universe (which is a huge huge jump by itself), it'd have very little difficulty in mutating to affect other mammals like canines and felines in the 20 years of the pandemic. c:

It's a strange disease with a very distinct pattern of mushrooming, interesting

Thanks.  Now I don't think I'll ever be able to play this game again...

Creepy, but cool! Cordyceps fungus is the one that infects ants right?

I find your cordyceps gorilla more believable than your cordyceps lion. Both humans and gorillas distance related as they are both part of the ape family, while lions are felines. A disease jump to different species is very rare, but if two species are closely related to each other it is possilbe, look at bird disease it can easly jump for a pigeon to chicken, same with cow disease or pig disease.

Why not make Cordyceps Chimpanzee and Cordyceps Monkey? Humans are closely related to apes and monkeys and feel kind of kinship with them, and seeing something so closely related  to humans infected is alot scarier and sends a message that humanity cannot escape this infection so easily.
